Kotoeri Conversion #

During conversion:

  • Ctrl + j : Convert to Hiragana
  • Ctrl + k : Convert to Katakana
  • Ctrl + l : Convert to full-width alphanumeric
  • Ctrl + ; : Convert to half-width alphanumeric

Cursor Movement, etc. #

It's not Vim, so it's not the easiest to get used to, but...

  • Ctrl + p : Up
  • Ctrl + n : Down
  • Ctrl + b : Left
  • Ctrl + f : Right
  • Ctrl + k : Delete line
  • Ctrl + y : Paste
  • Ctrl + a : Move to beginning of line
  • Ctrl + e : Move to end of line

Screen Capture #

Taking a full-screen screenshot with Command + Shift + 3 goes without saying, but...

With Command + Shift + 4, you can capture a selected area. While dragging the area you want to capture:

  • Space : Move the capture area without resizing
  • Shift : Lock all directions except the one the cursor is moving to resize the area
  • Option : Resize the area anchored from its center
  • Ctrl : Copy the captured area to the clipboard
  • Esc : Cancel capture

Quick Look #

In Quick Look for images:

  • Option + click : Zoom in
  • Option + Shift + click : Zoom out
  • Option + scroll wheel : Zoom in/out

In Quick Look for PDFs:

  • Command + Plus key (Command + Shift + ;) : Zoom in
  • Command + Minus key : Zoom out

Dashboard #

Hovering over a widget while holding Option reveals the close button (×) to remove it (no need to click the + at the bottom-left of the screen every time).

Others #

  • Ctrl + Shift + Eject : Turn off the display
  • Command + Option + Esc : Force quit
  • Command + Option + Ctrl + Eject : Shut down the OS
  • Scroll the mouse wheel while holding Ctrl : Zoom the screen in/out (pretty impressive)
  • Command + click the Safari title bar : Navigate to a higher-level directory of the current site's URL
  • (Probably in all apps) Command + F1 : Cycle through windows of the same app
